English Theatre Day

Am Donnerstag, den 14. Januar 2016 hatten wir zum ersten Mal einen “English Theatre Day” an unserer Schule.Wir konnten dafür das Phoenix Theatre gewinnen, das mit jungen, engagierten Schauspielern an Schulen geht, um den jungen Menschen dort nicht nur das Theater, sondern auch die englische Sprache näherzubringen.In der Nachbetrachtung kann man sagen, dass dieser Tag für alle Beteiligten ein voller Erfolg war. Unsere Schüler haben die vier Vorstellungen sehr genossen, die Schauspieler haben mit sehr viel Freude gespielt und waren im Anschluss zwar geschafft, aber voll des Lobes über ihre interessierten Zuschauer. Aber nun sollen die zu Wort kommen, für die der Tag gedacht und gemacht war, unsere Schüler.

The Giant’s Treasure

Uns hat das englischsprachige Musical „The Giant´s Treasure“ sehr gut gefallen, weil die Schauspieler uns mit einbezogen und mit uns gesungen haben. Trotz des Englischen konnten wir alles gut verstehen, u.a. weil die Darsteller laut und deutlich gesprochen und gesungen haben. So konnten wir das Musical genießen.

Die Kostüme waren schön, das schnelle Wechseln der Kleider hat gut geklappt und auch das Tanzen und die Musik haben uns sehr gut gefallen. Besonders das Umschalten der Musik mit der Fernbedienung fanden wir sehr lustig.

Beim Austauschen des Bühnenbildes gab es zwar ein paar kleine Probleme, aber insgesamt hat kam das Stück bei allen Schülerinnen und Schülern gut an, was man auch am lauten Beifall merken konnte.

Echoes

On January 14th, there was an English theatre performance at our school, a play called “Echoes”. It tells the story of two teenagers who have bad experiences with social networks. There were only two actors, a man and a woman who acted in six different roles.

One of them, a girl named Lilly, fancies Dom, who is very popular at school. Her best friend Simon doesn’t like him though. One day, Dom wants to have a sexy photo of Lilly. She isn’t sure if she should do it and Simon also warns her. But Dom promises that he won’t share the picture, so she agrees.

Some time later she gets a call from Simon who got this photo of her from a friend of Dom’s. In this moment she knows that Dom isn’t like she thought. He admits that he shared the photo. From then on, Lilly doesn’t have a moment of silence. She gets bad comments and messages because of her photo, even from people she doesn’t know. She tries to deal with the cyberbullying problem alone, but this isn’t as easy as she thought. Some weeks after the sharing of the photo she can’t stand the cyberbullying anymore and kills herself …

In contrast to this, the actors showed the story of Ryan. He is an exchange partner from Boston and on his first day he meets Caitlin. She is a very direct girl and she shows him around. But suddenly there is a little misunderstanding and she gets very angry with him. From this moment she starts to cyberbully against him and puts a wrong photo of him on the internet. But in contrast to Lilly’s story, a teacher, called Mrs O’Brian, is informed about the problem and intervenes. Because of this, the cyberbullying stops and Ryan goes back to his hometown. So his story has a happy ending, because of the teacher’s intervention …

Both stories were nearly the same, but they had two different endings: a good and a bad one.

The actors impressed us because they played so many different roles in a short time. They told us the story in changing roles supported by sounds and accessories.

For us the English was easy to understand. Although we didn’t know all the English words we could follow the story very well. With this play they showed us the big problem of cyberbullying in a clear way.

After the play we had a discussion about it in our class. The result was: it’s always better to get help, especially in such a complicated situation. So for us the play was very instructive and now we know how to avoid problems like this.
